Burning with the brightness of
500 candle power or the equivalency
of a 400 watt light bulb...

"PETROMAX..."
...the recognized leader in multi-fuel lanterns. Delivering an amazingly bright light when burning kerosene, these lanterns are not only beautiful but extremely useful. The Petromax lantern was designed and developed by Adolf & Max Graetz, who were appointed managing directors of their family business (Ehrich & Graetz) in 1889.

From their efforts arose the most powerful & reliable lanterns in the world. Petromax lanterns run on a variety of fuels... kerosene, alcohol-based fuels, mineral spirits, citronella oil, gasoline, diesel oil, & almost every flammable fuel available on the market.

Designed by the Germans since the early 1900's, these pressurized multi-fuel lanterns are reliable, easy to use and date back to when kerosene was invented.

Don't be fooled by cheap imitations. The "BriteLyt" lantern is now the 5th generation of Petromax products.

The generations are: Petromax, Aida, Hipolito, Geniol, and now BriteLyt. This is in sequence of progression of models. All these lanterns are of the same build, quality, and the parts are interchangeable. The Britelyt Petromax Lanterns are Built to Last Generations!

Please don't confuse our products with cheap imported imitations or lanterns that are of an older generation.

BriteLyt EZ-Pump(tm) Valve! EZ Pump Stem

The above photo shows an EZ-Pump Valve installed on the lantern. It's easy to install: Just unscrew the manual pump and replace with Valve Assembly...

Connecting to this with a bicycle pump makes pumping easier, and helps prevent mantle breakage. With an adapter, you can use CO2 cartridges. The adaptor can be purchased at any bicycle shop.

Look at the spare parts kit that we include at no extra charge with every Lantern:

The first lanterns developed with the Petromax name were used by the German armies before and during World War Two. The military significance of a lantern that would burn all liquid fuels from diesel oil to gasoline made the lantern very useful. Also developed were heaters and stoves for the individual soldier and up to whole companies. These three items gave the German army the benefit of heat, light and a way to prepare food with the use of any liquid fuel available.

The German army and many other military services including the NATO forces still use the same product line of the original company. Making use of parts quality and the ability of interchange going back to the 1900's.

All of the lanterns, stoves and heaters used today, by the world wide general public are known to be reliable and easy to repair. Using kerosene as the fuel of choice, this lantern has a problem free life of decades if a little tender loving care is bestowed upon it.

The original "Petromax" lanterns were used in the movie, "Kelly's Heroes". These lanterns were used during WWII, as a means of lighting, heating, & cooking. The lantern is used by NATO forces, as well as various paramilitary groups around the world. The lantern's appearance & parts have not changed since their development, and they are still being constructed of solid brass, nickel plating.

The Petromax Cook Stove Top

petromaxtop.jpg - 5238 Bytespetromaxtp2.jpg - 3500 Bytes To install the cook stove, remove the reflector then loosen the two serrated screws attaching the handle to the lantern. Remove the chimney and install the stove top. The Petromax puts out about 5,560 BTUs of heat in an hour. This is about the same as a small burner turned up about 1/3 way on an electric kitchen stove. It takes 8,815 BTUs to heat a quart of water from 60 degrees F. to it's boiling point. And this doesn't take into account any heat loss to the air around the pan. As no pan I know of is more efficient than maybe 50%, you can see that this stove can only be used for the lightest of cooking chores. As you can see from the picture on the right, this setup is designed to only hold a light pan.
