![]() | The valves that open the bins are very simple, constructed from wooden 2X4s. To me, I find it fascinating that such a simple arrangement could be used to control the movement of hundreds of tonnes of grain. The majority of the bin valves are of this 2X4 style. The rest of them are pull slides such as what you see in the photo below. There's a total of 24 of these pull handle type slide valves. You'll find these 24 pull handles throughout the lower floors; in the in and out drive halls, on each side of the two legs and more along the walls in the main house room. ![]() |

| The four following photos show the majority of the 27 bin handles which are scattered through the main house room of the elevator. You might think it would be easy to get them all mixed up. They have another simple system for keeping them straight... They write the bin number on the handle with a magic marker. | |||
