An Old Time Dugout Root Cellar
Root cellars were a major part of life for many years. They came in many sizes due to space and need. Many of us have memories of visiting our grand parents root cellars and finding jars of fruits, jams and pickles. Fresh vegetables were also abundant through the winter months as they were stored in bushel baskets or hung from rafters. Although there are not as many root cellars around now, we can still recall the smell and feel of stepping into that dark room full of the work and toil of summer.
